Prepare a QR code for print: the practical checklist
A successful preview on screen does not guarantee reliable scanning on a glossy, curved or small surface. Test the final artwork in real conditions before the full print run.

Size and scanning distance
As a starting point, make the QR width roughly one tenth of the intended scan distance: about 3 cm for a 30 cm scan. This is a practical rule, not a guaranteed limit; dense matrices and difficult materials need more space.

Contrast and quiet zone
Keep at least four modules of clear space around the code. Dark modules on a light background remain the most reliable. Avoid photography, transparency and decorative frames inside the quiet zone.

- No inverted colours without testing
- Never cover finder patterns

File format and material
Use SVG or PDF for print so module edges stay sharp. Test reflections on gloss and foil, distortion on curved packaging and ink spread on fabric.

Final test before production
Print one sample at final size. Scan it on iOS and Android from realistic angles and lighting, then verify the HTTPS destination and page speed.
