Add a logo without breaking the code
A QR code carries error correction, and a logo spends it. Keep the logo centred, keep it small relative to the matrix, and re-test after every change — the point where it stops scanning arrives suddenly.
Steps
- Place the logo in the centre, where the fewest structural modules live.
- Keep it small. The more of the matrix it covers, the less damage the code can survive afterwards.
- Give it a solid background rather than letting modules show through a transparent PNG.
- Never cover the three large corner squares — a scanner uses them to find and orient the code.
- Re-export and scan after each size change.
How to check it worked
Scan the export on two phones, from a normal distance, at an angle. If it needs a second attempt, the logo is too big.
What usually goes wrong
- A transparent logo that leaves modules visible underneath.
- A logo that creeps over a corner square.
- Testing on screen at 400% zoom, where almost anything scans.
