Dynamic codes and redirects

Send different people to different places

A dynamic code can send some scans somewhere else: by country, language, operating system, device type, a query parameter, a date window or a weighted split. Rules run from top to bottom and the first one that matches wins; everything else goes to the code’s destination.

Steps

  1. Open the code, switch to Link & rules and choose Smart redirect.
  2. Press Add rule, pick the Rule type, enter the values — comma-separated — and the rule’s destination, then press Add rule.
  3. Rules apply in the order they were added. To change the order, delete a rule and add it again.
  4. Try it in the Redirect simulator: set a country, a device or a language and see which rule answers.
  5. Rules take effect without publishing again. Give them a moment, then test.

How to check it worked

Scan from a phone that matches the rule — for a language rule, one set to that language — and check that it lands on the rule’s address.

What usually goes wrong

  • Country rules need to know where a scan came from. If your analytics show no countries, country rules cannot match either.
  • A broad rule at the top that catches everything below it.
  • A static code. Rules need a dynamic one.
